Meet Kathy

Kathy Carter

I am Kathy (pronouns she/her), and I am thrilled to be working with Thriving Autistic. I am a neurodiversity-affirming cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist and counsellor, as well as an autistic Mum to an autistic son.

If you’re recently diagnosed as autistic, you probably have lots and lots of questions, and feel as if a new direction of your life is opening up. I’d love to introduce concepts like identity, self-regulation and authenticity; key aspects of Self that an individual discovering new sides of themselves, especially through an autistic lens, can hope to attain.

I believe that hypno-psychotherapy as I practice it is a very broad, holistic type of talking therapy that can be useful at the post-diagnosis stage. We can tailor your session around your needs, whether that’s simply addressing your current feelings about your diagnosis; reflecting on identity and past difficulties, considering future goals seen through an autistic lens; diving into CBT concepts; and even using brief, nourishing techniques involving mindfulness, meditative and regulatory tools to increase your emotional energy.

I have found my autism diagnosis to be life-affirming and life-changing; I hope that I can help you feel this way too, and look forward to walking with you on your journey.

Availability: Typically Monday mornings or lunchtimes.
