Offering Post-Assessment Support Sessions

Thank you!

Thank you for partnering with us in helping to support newly identified autistic adults!

Thriving Autistic offers newly identified adults a one-hour support session with a neurodivergent practitioner.

This support session is a safe space for people to begin to explore their feelings about being Autistic, help them brainstorm solutions to current challenges and discuss the path forward. One of the most important elements of the session is being a safe, welcoming presence who links ND adults into our community.

All support services are offered by fully qualified, experienced coaches, psychologists and therapists who are ourselves neurodivergent.

HOW CLIENTS WILL CONTACT YOU

Clients will email you to book an appointment at a date/time that suits you or we will email to let you know a client has requested you.

BACKGROUND INFO & RISK ASSESSMENT

Each person will have completed a risk-assessment with their clinical psychologist prior to their support session with you. On booking in your client, please email us for the referral form and we will send it onto you (bookings@thrivingautistic.org). The referral form will provide some background info. that will help you undertake the session. This info. has been provided with the client's consent and must be stored securely in accordance with GDPR.

FOLLOW-ON SUPPORT?

If the client would like follow-on support, please feel free to continue working with them and set your own rates. If they would like support and you don't want to continue the relationship, please refer them back to us at TA and we will support them to find an alternative practitioner.

If you do choose to continue working with the person, you will need to follow your own intake process and risk assessment at your first follow-up session as you will be working with them as an independent practitioner.

Example questions to help structure your session

  • Would you like the video camera on or off?
  • Would you prefer open or closed questions (explain what that means) eg open is if I ask you how are you feeling about your diagnosis, closed is where I ask you something that requires a yes/no answer.
  • Then frame your questions as either open or closed
  • Why did you seek an assessment?
  • Did it give you the answers you were looking for?
  • What are your passions/ special areas of interest?
  • Are there any areas you would like to chat about, or did you have any specific questions you wanted to ask me about?
  • Was there anything I should have asked you, or is there anything else we should have discussed? OK to email if you can't think of anything now...
