Frequently Asked Questions:
Why do you ask about past risk, not just current concerns?
Understanding someoneโs history helps us build a complete picture of what may influence their wellbeing and engagement. Even if there is no current risk, knowing about past experiences (like suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or trauma) allows us to match them with the practitioner best equipped to support them.
What counts as โcomplex needsโ?
Complex needs may include:
- A history of suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or suicide attempts (past or present)
- Significant trauma
- Co-occurring mental health conditions
- Other factors that might require a more specialised therapeutic approach
Does mentioning past risk mean the person must see a specialist practitioner?
Not necessarily. Many people with a history of risk or complexity are well supported by our general team. We use this information only to help ensure the person is matched with the practitioner who can best meet their needs.
What if Iโm unsure whether they need a specialist practitioner?
Please use your clinical judgment. If you believe their needs do not require specialist support, you can indicate โNoโ. If you feel they may benefit from a practitioner with experience in complex needs or elevated risk, please indicate โYesโ.
โ Thank you for taking the time to provide this information.
